These paper relief sculptures are greatly influenced by my travels to the island of Taiwan. The  inspiration was based upon the gorge of the Tianxiang River in beautiful Taroko National Park also known as the 'Marble Mountains'. Nature was always present from the beauty of the trees at different elevations to the lichen covered marble canyon walls. It was the varied patterns of the lichen that provided the subject matter for the numerous sketches and photographs that I completed on site. I also had the opportunity to visit and acquire handmade paper from Guangxing Paper Mill in the city of Puli. The paper was used to design the hand-cut and laser die cut shapes. This memorable experience along with the ‘micro’ world in my garden has resulted in the creation of this body of artwork, titled ‘inSIGHTS’, that was exhibited in November 2015 at Propeller Art Gallery, Queen St. West, Toronto.
